Module 4

Principles of Cognition

Limitations of odor, the canine nose, environmental variables, and decision dynamics.

Module 5

Definitions & Nomenclature

Unified terminology for odor, scent, smell, perception, intensity, and odor generation rate.

Module 6

Special Topics

Odor signals of common target materials and odor gradients and transport in ambient environments.

Module 7

Practicals

Short field exercises demonstrating canine response patterns in real detection contexts.

Module 8

Final Exam

Cumulative assessment integrating all eight modules of the Level One curriculum.

Advanced Curriculum

Levels II – IV

After completing Level One, practitioners progress through three advanced levels of study, each building toward full SCENTMaster and SCENTCertifier qualification.

LEVEL II

Applied Odor Science

Deeper study of vibrational olfaction, odor transport, environmental variables, and statistically valid evaluation design. Includes hands-on labs and structured field exercises.

LEVEL III

Operational Mastery

Advanced training methodology, parent-odor blending, multi-target discrimination, and detailed analysis of canine cognition under operational stress.

LEVEL IV

SCENTCertifier Track

Capstone level preparing graduates to evaluate canine teams against the unified SCENTSOURCE™ standard and contribute to the global practitioner-scientist data set.
